SOAR summit scheduled for August 4, pre-registration deadline is July 28

Pikeville, Ky. – The fourth-annual SOAR (Shaping Our Appalachian Region) summit will be held on Friday, August 4 at the East Kentucky Exposition Center.  

This year’s summit will feature Congressman Hal Rogers and Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin, as well as a keynote addresses from John Stephenson, senior manager of public policy for Amazon Web Services, Joan Ferrini-Mundy, chief operating officer of the National Science Foundation and Phillip Brown, executive director of the Kentucky Communications Network Authority (KCNA).  

The one-day event will feature an update on projects across SOAR’s 54-county service area and a Solution Showcase to highlight areas of innovation that align with SOAR’s Regional Blueprint.  More than 100 solutions from the will be highlighted from across Appalachian Kentucky, showcasing people and programs addressing the goals outlined in SOAR’s Regional Blueprint.

Since its inception, SOAR has worked to blur county and municipal lines to build a coalition of passionate eastern Kentuckians that enhance regional innovation and identity.

“We are building a 21st century economy in Appalachian Kentucky, and we are working to bring opportunities to all who seek it,” said Jared Arnett, executive director of SOAR. “This is not about SOAR, but instead about continuing the meaningful dialogue of transformative ideas taking place across our service area.”

The SOAR Summit is a “convening of ideas that lead to meaningful results and solutions for our region,” added Arnett.

Pre-registration ( is open until Friday, July 28 and is $15 (includes lunch).  On-site registration will be available at $25 The Summit begins at 8 a.m. (registration) with the program beginning at 9 a.m.
