SOAR, Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation to host faith-based convening

HAZARD, Ky. – Shaping Our Appalachian Region, Inc. (SOAR) and the Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation has announced a convening for faith-based organizations and businesses, community leaders, and individuals on Thursday, May 14 at Hazard Community and Technical College’s First Federal Center.

Rediscovering the Doctrine of Work is a free, one-day workshop that will focus on the understanding of work and how to incorporate it into the transformational services offered to those served.

Todd Lamphere, chief of staff to Pastor Paula White, will be the keynote speaker.  White is an advisor to the White House Office of Faith Initiatives.  Other speakers include: Beth Kuhn, chief engagement officer for the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services; Mike Addison, vice president of the Appalachian Children’s Home; Bryce Stout, economic development manager for Advance Memphis; and Erin Bottomlee, director of St. Vincent Mission.

“Faith is one of our core values at SOAR,” said Jared Arnett, executive director of SOAR. “To transform Appalachia Kentucky and build the 21st Century Appalachia we envision requires faith.  When people have faith, they are empowered to believe, step out of their comfort zone, and truly have the opportunity to have a transformative effect in their home, their places of work, and within their community.”
